What Spleen Means to Me . . . Simply Put

Some of you may be aware of the Spleen, some maybe not. There are a number of characteristics that define the Spleen, but I am often drawn to the top few. . . Leadership, Responsibility, Perseverance, Respect, Compassion, Integrity and Sensitivity (for those fellow Spleens who really know). I would like to throw laughter in there too.

The Spleen has strengths that others are naturally drawn to. He believes. He believes in God, his family, himself. He believes in others. He has this endless drive to not only be better, but to be the best. Anything less is just stopping short.

The Spleen never stops. He challenges me to be a better human being. He challenges me to reflect upon, debate with, and ultimately nurture my soul. At the core of the Spleen, against any effort to change himself, he is exactly who God intended him to be; a caring son, an accepting brother, a 'head-over-heels-in-love' husband, a proud father, a dependable friend and a compassionate stranger. What better role model for the younger Spleens out there?

Throughout my short life my face time with the Spleen has been minimal, but the connection is strong and continues to grow. Simply put, the Spleen is vital to me. I love you Spleen.

Simple Slippers

Merry Christmas! Santa got my message and my wish was granted. . . Simple slippers. I now have happy, warm feet. I am quite certain I am now wearing the most wonderful slippers ever made, but of course I am only one voice. I believe it is very important to take great care of your soul, as well as your soles.

My Simple slippers are not necessarily slippers my parents would have picked out together - they're a bit too simple. This being our first Christmas without Dad, we've taken a little break from the goofy, which I know is only temporary. It's odd having Christmas without Dad. I'm quite certain this is one holiday he truly enjoyed. The difficult thing is being in the house and not seeing him sitting in his given spot on the couch or seeing him giggle with all of us as inappropriate comments were made at inappropriate times. At the same time, there's something wonderful in knowing he's here in all of us. Taking great care of your soul - that's what counts. It really is simple.

Me
